updated 10.22.2008 - updated the Mega Man 9 entry in the Official Collection with some downloadable content

(Refresh this page to make sure you're viewing the latest version)

Here we have my personal collection of Mega Man (aka Rockman, in Japan) software and merchandise, which includes every official game ever published (I usually wait for the US release of a game). I try to keep them in some semblance of chronological order; for example, Mega Man original series titles will be listed in the order in which they take place, with the Mega Man X, Zero, ZX, and Legends games following them. The Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Star Force series are not connected to "standard" Mega Man continuity, so they're listed last.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

"Do you buy the Japanese Rockman games as soon as they're released?" No. Most Mega Man titles get a US release, and I'm content to wait for that. If a long period of time elapses (say, a year or two) and it becomes obvious that a game is not going to see a US release, then I'll grab the Japanese version. I'll also sometimes grab Japanese copies of a game when there's multiple versions released (i.e., Mega Man Star Force); I'll play through an English copy, and buy the other Japanese versions later for my collection (at a much lower price!).
"Why don't you have both Japanese and US versions of each game, or every single version of a game (like Mega Man X4 for both Saturn and Playstation)?" If the content of the game is the same, then I generally don't need both. I bought the Playstation versions of the original six Rockman titles because they came with extra features; the same goes for the Saturn versions of Rockman 8 and Rockman X3, as well as the added material on the Mega Man Anniversary Collection PS2 disc. Of course, if I receive old cartridges and such as gifts or happen to find them for a rock-bottom price, I have no problems adding them to my collection anyway!
"What about the cellphone games?" I don't own a cellphone (I hate the damn things), so I'm outta luck. Plus, with the Japanese games, you need a Japanese cellphone and a Japanese service provider. That obviously is not an option, as I don't live in Japan!
"Can you understand Japanese?" Nope. In most of the games, it's not really a problem, as many of the commands are in English, and the gameplay's fairly straightforward.
"Do games like Marvel vs. Capcom count?" Not in the "official" capacity, no. Even though Capcom may have produced them, they're not Mega Man games per se; Mega Man and/or other characters just appear in the games.
"Do you get every game that Mega Man makes a cameo appearance in?" Only the ones where Mega Man or related characters are playable; I don't need the ones where he just appears on a billboard or in a stage background, for example. Furthermore, these games aren't nearly as important as those for the Official Collection, so I pick them up if and when I get around to it.
"What's your opinion on strategy guides?" If you're buying them because you're stuck in a game, I think it's a waste of money. You can do the same thing by visiting GameFAQs, and that's free! That said, I do enjoy buying guides for Mega Man titles, but only because they make pretty good art/sourcebooks for my collection. I never use them to "cheat."
"Rockman EXE? Mega Man Battle Network? MegaMan NT Warrior? What's the difference?" The differences are in name only; they're all exactly the same thing. Rockman EXE is the original Japanese name for the entire series. Mega Man Battle Network is the US name for the video games, while MegaMan NT Warrior is the US name for the anime, manga, and toys; some characters therein were also renamed. The video games, however, all have the correct names.
"What's your favorite Mega Man game?" Mega Man 3, without a doubt. It took everything that was great about Mega Man 2 (which is many other Mega Man fans' favorite), and expanded upon it without feeling like a rehash. Plus, all of the MM2 baddies show up for you fight all over again, albeit with new weapons at your disposal. Gaming perfection.

Now, on to the collection itself! Upcoming titles or ones I'm actively working on acquiring are displayed in green italics, and will be added to the collection once I get them. Upcoming games and demo discs do not factor into the final game count; also, anthology titles count as only one game.

Current game count: 76
